What Is Steam Cleaning?
Steam cleaning is the process we use to clean carpets, rugs, and upholstery in the Boise area. It’s the most effective carpet cleaning method on the market today – much more so than “dry” carpet cleaning, and is able to remove dirt, allergens, and grime down to the base of your carpets.
Steam cleaning is a bit of a misnomer – technically the cleaning process is called hot water extraction cleaning. It involves injecting hot water – usually around 180F – into the carpet or upholstery fibers under around 80 PSI – roughly twice the water pressure in a typically home’s plumbing! The temperature and pressure is adjusted to suit what is being cleaned – some fibers need cooler water, and thicker rugs may need higher pressure. The name “steam cleaning” comes from the fact the carpet will typically have some steam lifting off of it as it is being cleaned, but it’s not the steam thats actually doing the cleaning work.
As the water is sprayed into the carpet, it agitates and lifts the dirt and grime that’s accumulated in your carpet. Any detergents or stain removal solutions mixed in with the water will act on the carpet as well, releasing grime and stains from the fibers. A very powerful vacuum then lifts the now dirty water and detergent and sends it back to the tank in the carpet cleaning van, or in the floor machine if the van’s carpet cleaner can’t be used for some reason.
Once the cleaning process is done, the carpet will likely be damp to the touch. However, it will dry out quickly with sufficient ventalation. Running the air conditioner, opening windows, and turning on fans will also help speed up the drying process. Typically a carpet will be dry enough to walk on in hours.
